Spas for Everyone
Long gone are the days when spa breaks, holistic treatments and exotic baths were considered a part of holidays and vacation just for tourists. There was a time when tourist from different parts of the world visiting tourist destination looked out for such services which were exclusive to only five star hotels and big fancy holiday resorts.
With the growing trend of using spa sessions and related ailments on a day-use basis, it has become a part of everyone’s life, at least for everyone who is living in urban cities under the pressure of lengthy hours at work and the constant rise in prices. Today, a spa clinic can be found at every corner offering sauna, bathing, body wraps and similar services for everyone to relax as well as enjoy what was once considered a hobby only for the riches.

The health and safety consultant shall prepare a list of all items of work requiring a method statement. This list is to be kept on site and up-dated as the project progresses. A copy of the list, and of the individual method statements are to be made available to the CDM Co-ordinator.
Generally, method statements shall be prepared for activities not covered in the Principal Contractor’s procedures manual, where hazards are not dealt with under generic assessments and standard procedures, or where the Principal Contractor will not be in overall control of the work activities (e.g. specialist sub-contractor operations).
Method statements should be specific and proportional to the element of work on the project, and contain information on the safety procedures required or the task to be carried out, as well as the management element connected with the task.
The following information will be required from the Principal Contractor for inclusion by the health and safety into the Health and Safety File.
This information is to be requested from the relevant sources as the work proceeds and be collected and collated under the headings below and presented in good order on completion of the works for final preparation of the File by the health and safety for handing to the Client allowing Practical Completion to be achieved.
The Contents of the Health and Safety File shall be laid out as detailed within the tender, in addition the health and safety file should include
THE ABOVE INFORMATION SHOULD ALSO INCLUDE THE INFORMATION IDENTIFIED WITHIN THE EMPLOYER’S REQUIREMENTS DOCUMENT IN THE FORMAT SPECIFIED, WITH EACH SECTION HAVING ITS OWN CONTENTS PAGE TO ENSURE EASE OF USE.
The Contents of the Health and Safety File shall be laid out as detailed within the tender, in addition the health and safety file should include
§ General Description of the project;
§ Residual hazards and how they have been dealt with.
§ Any hazards associated with the materials used (for example hazardous substances, lead paint, special coatings which should not be burnt off);
§ Health and safety information about equipment provided for cleaning or maintaining the structure;

Responsibilities
It is the responsibility of the Health and Safety Manager to ensure the safety of everyone who enters the company’s premises. They are solely responsible for the implementation and ensuring that all the safety regulations are followed. For example, if a plant manufactures a hazardous material, then as a health and safety manager, they are responsible to ensure the safety of the workers by asking them to wear facemasks, goggles and protective clothing. If it is an office, then they are required to maintain safety by assuring that all desk drawers and file cabinets are closed, spills cleaned up and signs posted.
One of the major roles of the Health and Safety Manager is to schedule routine fire drills and also assure that each department designates a person to act as a monitor. They may also have to walk the floor regularly, to check for any violations and also to rectify any problems. The Health and Safety Manager is designated to handle the issues related to illness that may result due to unsafe working conditions. They are basically responsible for the implementation, application and maintenance of value, decision and risk management tools, procedures and techniques.
Qualifications
To undertake the role of a Health and Safety Manager, you have to acquire a college or university degree and gain several years of experience. Education is an ongoing process and must be upgraded, as new safety products enter the market regularly.
A Health and Safety professional’s responsibility is to ensure that all the fire extinguishers are in safe and working condition and that everyone knows how to find and use them. In many companies, the manager recruits new employees and also guides them with the instructions on conduct and about existing safety measures.

You can also work as an Environmental Health and Safety manager in a manufacturing unit, where selection is based on education or internal promotion. The candidate would ideally need to have a degree in Industrial technology or a Business degree.
